About the Role
The Medical Assistant plays a hands-on role in patient care, specimen collection, and regulatory compliance within a fast-paced occupational health environment. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in structured settings that require attention to detail, professionalism, and consistent execution of protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
- Room patients and obtain accurate vitals
- Support occupational health services (pre-employment exams, injury care, etc.)
- Prepare and maintain exam rooms, supplies, and equipment
Drug & Alcohol Testing
- Perform DOT and non-DOT urine collections in compliance with 49 CFR Part 40
- Maintain chain of custody documentation with zero deviation
- Prepare, package, and ship specimens to laboratory partners
Mobile / On-Call Services
- Complete after-hours and on-call mobile collections (rotation includes evenings/weekends/holidays)
- Act as a field representative for employer clients and partner healthcare facilities
Compliance & Documentation
- Protect patient privacy and medical records under HIPAA
- Adhere to DOT, clinic, and laboratory protocols with strict accuracy
- Ensure clean documentation, logs, specimen tracking, and regulatory paperwork
Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- DOT urine drug collector certification or willingness to obtain
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to participate in rotating on-call availability
- Must successfully pass a 6-year background check
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in occupational health, pre-employment testing, urgent care, or industrial medicine
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred
- Familiarity with chain of custody procedures, mobile collections, or employer health services
